To say game one of the 2019 Women’s College World Series was a shocker is no over statement. I expected a very close game but UCLA put a big time beat down on Oklahoma winning by a score of 16-3.
The Bruins went on top 1-0 in the first inning but Oklahoma came right back in the bottom of the second and tied up the game 1-1. UCLA added two more runs in the 3rd to retake the lead then added one more run in both the 4th and 5th innings to their score. The Bruins blew the game wide open then scoring 6 more runs in their 6th inning. UCLA poured on another five runs in the top of the 7th while Oklahoma scored just one in their bottom half of the inning.
Once again UCLA sent their ace pitcher Rachael Garcia to the circle and she showed why for two years straight she has been picked college softball player of the year shutting down the Sooner’s powerful offense.
The two teams go at it again Tuesday night with Oklahoma in a must win situation to extend the series to a game three winner take all. If UCLA wins they are the 2019 champions.
