In Friday action between undefeated tourney teams first up was UCLA vs. Arizona, a match up that hearkens back to past years that the two teams were taking turns winning championships. The Wildcats sent their ace Taylor McQuillin to the circle to face UCLA’s 2019 player of the year Rachael Garcia. The game was much closer then the final score of 6-2 would indicate. Teams exchanged runs in the third and that 1-1 tie held until the sixth when UCLA’s Malia Quarles stepped in to pinch hit and blasted a home run to give the Bruins the 2-1 lead. In the seventh things went off the rails for Arizona as after several bad fielding plays when the dust settled UCLA had scored 4 more runs and had a 6-1 lead. Arizona added one run in the bottom of the seventh inning but that was all they could get and lost the game by the final score of 6-2.
The nightcap game was between interstate rivals Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State. The Sooner’s Giselle ‘G’ Juarez went up against Cowgirl’s star pitcher Samantha Show in the game. Oklahoma took an early 3-1 lead by the end of the first inning adding 3 more runs in the sixth winning the game by a final score of 6-1.
