There was 291 NCAA Division I Softball teams that were eligible to compete for the National Championship at the beginning of the season. On Sunday night that list got whittled down to 64 teams that are gonna be playing in this years NCAA softball D1 Championship Tournament. Out of the 64 teams 32 conference winners were awarded automatic qualification, while the remaining 32 slots were filled with at-large selections to complete the bracket. The top 16 teams were seeded nationally and will play at their campus sites beginning on Thursday.

Once again the SEC lead the way sending all 13 of its teams to the playoffs again. The Big Ten Conference was next placing six teams in the championship tournament. Detroit Mercy University and Seattle University are making their first appearance ever in the tournament.

The tournament starts with 16 Regionals played on campus sites. Each site will have four teams playing in a double-elimination tournament.
